What IS this?

Hi there!

This blog is a supplemental discussion resource for the grad and undergraduate courses in furniture history at SCAD. In our class sessions, we discuss the political, economic, technological and social context of design through history. Our goal is to gain explicit knowledge of historic styles and movements and the circumstances that shaped them.

The timelines may seem inaccurate in certain instances. This is primarily because of the way in which I or our text author organized information. My dream would be to have an interactive world map with timeline slider, much like the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History. There are numerous links to the Heilbrunn throughout our site. Nonetheless, I created the timelines using Timeline JS - a terrific and very easy-to-use application.

Creating a collaborative visual database is a fun and effective way for our group to conduct research. We create Pinterest boards that correlate with the historic styles - very FUN!
